kOko Powell's Bio
Born in Los Angeles, kOko’s been creating music since two years of age…and has never looked back. At eleven, he started his first band (as a drummer) playing for family and friends. He became a Beatles fan, and changed his instrument to Guitar. At the age of twenty-one, kOko was asked to play Bass in an emergency situation…and fell in love with it. He started hitting the Hollywood hotspots and ran into a rock-n-roll band called ”Crabby Appleton” (who had a top 20 hit called ”Go Back”). While playing around town with Crabby, they opened up for ”The Spencer Davis Group”. Spencer took a liking to kOko’s Bass playing and offered him his first touring gig.
After having been with Spencer (off and on) for nine years, kOko now finds himself playing, writing, and recording with some of the best in the business–such as Grammy Award winning producer/engineer Francis Buckley, Quincy Jones (Juke Joint), and performing with some of the greats–such as Lenny Kravitz, Shelia E (Prince), Dishwalla, Trevor Rabin (Yes), Jerry Corbett (Sugarloaf), Pete Riviera (Rare Earth), Mickey Dolenz (The Monkeys), Mike Panera (Iron Butterfly, Blue Image), session ace Matt Laug (Alanis Morrisette, Fuel, Richard Marx), Chris Frazier (Steve Vai, Tiffany, White Snake), Pete Meloney (Dishwalla, Tonic), Chris Slade (AC|DC, The Firm, Manfred Mann), Jim Wheeler (Kenny Loggins), Todd Suckerman (Styx), Taylor Mills (Brian Wilson), Fritz Lewak (Melissa Manchester), Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks, Edgar Winter, Alanis Morrisette), Francis Buckley (Aerosmith, Quincy Jones, Paula Abdul, Wilson Phillips, Nancy Wilson, Dave Koz, Steve Perry),
As a member of additional bands in Southern California, kOko has opened for:
The Temptations, The Ojays, The Wall Flowers, Tom Jones, The Four Tops, Little Feat, The Gypsy Kings, Sheryl Crow, Los Lobos, and The Beach Boys. Past performances include: Hugh Hefner’s birthday party, Sports Illustrated XXXVII Party, Drew Brees’ (New Orleans Saints Quarterback) wedding, San Diego Padres World Series Party, as well as World Wide Corporate Events for Sprint (Puerto Rico), Governor of Alaska (Seward Alaska) Hard Rock Hotel ( Bali)
And now, because of his good friends Chris Frazier and Jimmy Paxson….kOko has the opportunity to play with the Legendary Edgar Winter.
