Day One: The Most Popular National Park

We embark on our expedition, driving west to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the most visited national park in Uganda.

Day Two: Into the Wilderness

An early morning game drive leads us into the grazing grounds of Uganda Kobs where elephants, waterbucks, lions, and buffaloes roam. Along the Kasenyi trail, we meet hosts of birds, including the brilliant pink flamingoes that flank the salt lakes.

In the late hours of the day, we set off on a launch cruise from Mweya Peninsula down the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George to Lake Edward. Warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, and elephants lounge in the shallows and along the banks of this laid back channel, surrounded by aquatic birds.

Day Three: Valley of the Apes/Departure

In the far east of Queen Elizabeth National Park lies the Valley of the Apes, the stunning Kyambura gorge which stretches one kilometer across and plunges 100 meters deep. The gorge, which is drained by Kayambura River, is an attractive habitat for primates, wild animals, and a rich diversity of birds.

We traverse the depths of the gorge, tracking habituated chimpanzees (meaning they are used to human presence) as they go about their day. With luck we also spot black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and giant forest hogs.

We depart, crossing the equator on our return journey to Entebbe and on to home.
